Our client is a multi-site research organisation operating across a number of sites across the UK, they provide an innovate range of services and solutions to clients in the pharmaceutical & chemical sectors. Due to growth they are now recruiting across a number of departments, one of these roles is for a Group Leader - Analytical Chemistry

You will join and lead a motivated and experienced team of analysts who are focused on supporting our external customers as well as our internal chemistry teams to deliver innovative solutions to our customers’ drug discovery programs. Reporting to a Section Head, this role will work alongside a Principal Scientist in running the analytical department and have line management responsibility for a team of 3 – 5 analytical chemists. The successful applicants will be able to demonstrate an excellent level of analytical knowledge across a variety of techniques and would suit an established line manager or a senior scientist looking to take the next step in their career.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Line management of a team of up to 5 scientists, taking responsibility for their development and performance
  • Jointly responsible for Health, Safety and the Environment in a laboratory or area; including safety inspections and investigation of incident reports
  • Perform laboratory-based activities to a high a standard, identifying and resolving unexpected results
  • Effectively assist more junior colleagues, providing support and mentorship in the completion of laboratory tasks
  • Work alongside peers and senior management to ensure consistent practises are employed across the organisation
  • Demonstrate strong technical competency
  • Provides positive leadership through effective communication and motivation, demonstrating clear vision and direction in line with the organisation
  • Recognises others’ contribution to the team and demonstrate the ability to utilise varying skills and perspectives to maximise the team’s performance
  • Communicate professionally with internal and external customers
  • Complete written reports to a high standard

 

Qualifications/Skills/Experience

  • BSc/MSc/PhD in an analytical, chemical or related scientific field with demonstrated, relevant experience
  • Broad practical experience in an analytical chemistry setting, for example;
  • Method development using techniques such as LCMS, UPLC, SFC, GC and GCMS
  • NMR knowledge is desirable but not essential
  • Small molecule structure elucidation
  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience of working within a regulated quality assurance environment would be advantageous
